With Xendesktop 7.6 they have solved the final pieces of the puzzle and closed the gap between XenApp 6.5 and XenDesktop 7.6.

The four major changes to XenDesktop 7.6

These are the four major changes that will make you think to go to XenDesktop 7.6:

  1. Fast Access with Prelaunch and Linger
  2. High Availability with Connection Leasing
  3. Better management with app folders
  4. Anonymous user access

Fast Access with Prelaunch and Linger

With Prelaunch and Linger you are able to start sessions with no active connection (PreLaunch) or you can keep sessions active after users close a published application (Linger). How to configure both settings are described in the following youtube movie:

High Availability with Connection Leasing

With connection leasing you are less dependent of your Data Store. Existing connections are stored for 30 days on the XenDesktop Controllers. New users with no connections are unable to start a new connection when de Data Store is down.

Better management with app folders

Yes its back, application folders. Yes you can use filters. But they are only available for the person who creates them. Now you can easy manage your applications in folders for everybody!

Anonymous user access

I haven’t used Anonymous access, but I know some of you guys (and girls) out there are requiring this feature. So it’s back and also supported in StoreFront.
